A bright, caring place for little people in Colwyn Bay

Our Day at Little Caterpillars

Familiar routines help children feel secure, while flexible play gives them the freedom to follow their interests and enjoy the day at their own pace.

No two days are exactly the same

Young children are full of surprises, so our days are not built around a rigid timetable. We use a gentle rhythm that gives children predictable moments for food, rest, stories and transitions, with plenty of child-led play in between.

Activities change with the children, the weather, seasons, celebrations and whatever has captured everyone’s imagination that week.

Because every child is different, routines are adapted to suit age, stage and individual needs.

A typical rhythm

Morning

Arrivals & settling in

A warm hello, time to settle, choose an activity and reconnect with familiar adults and friends.

Play

Explore, create & discover

Open-ended play may include sensory trays, construction, role play, stories, music, art, puzzles and small-world play.

Outside

Fresh air & movement

Outdoor experiences give children room to move, notice nature, take safe risks and build physical confidence.

Mealtimes

Food, drink & conversation

Calm social mealtimes support independence, good routines and positive experiences around food.

Quiet time

Rest, stories & cosy moments

Children who need sleep or downtime are supported according to their age, needs and agreed routines.

Home time

Sharing the day

We help children transition home and share useful information with parents and carers.

Learning hidden inside play

A tower of blocks is maths, coordination, communication and problem solving all at once.

Communication

Songs, stories, conversation, role play and everyday interactions help build vocabulary and confidence.

Physical Skills

Climbing, pouring, threading, dancing, mark-making and outdoor play strengthen bodies and coordination.

Social & Emotional

Friendships, turn-taking, reassurance and supported problem solving help children understand themselves and others.
